ORIGIN & PRODUCTION
Produced from vines, grapes are in the front ranks of world fruit production. Widely grown and very much a part of French culture, grapes are also grown traditionally in many other countries, with the result that they are available for most of the year. They are produced in very large quantities in the southern hemisphere (South Africa, Peru, Chile) and increasingly grown in India.
TOTAL PRODUCE INDIGO specializes in importing grapes, and distributes numerous varieties of red and white grapes, without and without seeds.
DESCRIPTION & APPEARANCE
Grapes are a type of fruit that grow in clusters. Grapes may or may not contain seeds, depending on the variety.
They are available in various colours, broadly divided into “white” grapes (golden yellow, greenish, yellowish) and “red” grapes, which are generally darker, ranging from pink to mauve, to an almost black violet.
A bunch of grapes can weigh between 150 and 500 grams.
Grapes are much appreciated as a gourmet fruit, with their sweet flesh, and extraordinary variety of flavours. They also have an excellent reputation regarding health benefits; grapes are recognized to be good for cardiovascular health, particularly the juice of red grapes. They are also said to have a protective effect against cancer. The consumption of grape juice has many other positive influences on the body and well-being.
The glycaemic index of grapes is low to moderate depending on the variety. Their antioxidant power is very high for both colours, especially red grapes.
